Pack of American grindcore and death metal bands are headed to Japan

In July, three U.S. bands that I’ve written about previously—Genocide Pact, Triac, and Backslider—are heading to Japan together for four gigs.

The musicians in each band and what they’re playing takes a moment to map out. Tim Mullaney, the singer and guitarist in Genocide Pact, also plays bass in Triac. J.C., the drummer of Triac, also plays drums in Backslider. (Mullaney and J.C. are pictured above.)

I asked J.C. for a comment via message about the tour. He replied, “It’s a huge deal. Some of my absolute favorite extreme music has come from Japan, and I never thought I’d get the chance to play there.” He added, “Doing so with this unit of close friends is the icing on a giant cake from the universe.”

I ran into Mullaney at Maryland Deathfest in May of this year; his comment about the tour was more succinct. “There’s three words about how I want it to go: Bad. Fucking. Ass.”

The dates and the tour poster are below.

July 4, 2025, Tokyo, Bush Bash
July 5, 2025, Osaka, Environment 0G
July 6, 2025, Yokohama, El Puente
July 8, 2025, Nagoya, Huck Finn
