GUJI 咕叽 describes itself as a “synthy quartet” and is compared to Devo and the B-52’s. The music on the band’s self-titled cassette is pretty lo-fi and simplistic but it’s fun and surprisingly covers a bit of stylistic ground.
The two founding members (which includes the singer/guitarist from Round Eye) started the band during thebrutal COVID-19 lockdowns in Shanghai. Cut the story short, they wrote some material, filled out the band’s lineup, and the debut EP is out now on Godless America. Check it out!
