Rousers rocked and rolled on their “1979 Sire Session” release

Rousers were a twangy, pop rock, rockabilly, punk band from NYC that went into the studio in 1979 and recorded an album’s worth of demos that never came out until now. The tracks have been dusted off, digitized, and mixed for vinyl and CD.

Besides ballads like “Smother,” “Angel Town,” and “You Need Me,” the record is an upbeat trip down a Buddy Holly or Elvis Costello lane. There’s 13 tracks including an instrumental and they’re a fast listen because of the quality of the sound and the songs. The album has plenty of liner notes about the band too.

Jerid O’Connell made a quick trailer for the reissue on YouTube:

Where to Get It

1979 Sire Session is up on Bandcamp from Left For Dead Records. It’s on two LP variants at a total of 300 pressed and on CD and digital. If you go the CD route, it comes with a bonus disc of 6 additional songs (one’s a live cut). It’s unclear whether these were part of the original demo session or something else.

Left For Dead Records has been putting out a ton of reissues from the likes of Nastyfacts, Comateens, The Senders, and Detention, with Rousers being only the latest to get this attention. Read about all of these reissues here at the blog.
