
“Old school” is a phrase I use a lot here at the blog, and lots of bands use it too. In the case of Chilean band Feretro, it’s accurate for the style of death metal the group plays.
The order of the song titles almost reads like a concept record on the process of dying:
- Twilight of Life
- Towards Perishment
- The Ancient Horror
- In Agony
- The Hour of Death
- Time to Die
- Death’s Cycle
- Flesh for Worms
- Epitaph
There’s some Asphyx and Incantation influence in the songs, among other things, and some vocals that can be described as “tortured.” The record basically sounds like it came out in the early 1990s or earlier. Feretro has been doing this for about 20 years, though, so the band has earned its stripes, so to speak. The record’s great; an early 1990s me would have been all over it like a cheap suit.

Where to Get the Album
The Mortuary Destiny of Flesh is available on digital and CD from Nihilistic Holocaust. It’s on Bandcamp and the physical version is limited to 300 copies. There’s an ordering disclaimer in all caps: “I don’t ship this CD to America or Asia.”
