Music makers take action on payments from streaming services

In a move backed by the Musicians’ Union and the Ivors Academy, Tom Gray’s #BrokenRecord campaign has pulled together an open letter to Boris Johnson, demanding changes to how artists and songwriters are paid by streaming services.

As Ben Beaumont-Thomas wrote for The Guardian, the groups are among other things calling for the industry to pay for streaming plays more like how radio plays are paid. Several heavyweights in the arts and music have signed on to the letter, including Massive Attack, Billy Bragg, Anne Dudley, Brian Eno, Orbital, Thurston Moore, Annie Lennox, and the list goes on.

There’s more information at the Musicians’ Union website, including a link where you can sign a petition to the U.K. government on this issue.
