Extinction Rebellion: musicians and celebs sign open letter to the media

Extinction Rebellion, the group that advocates for and takes part in civil disobedience to draw attention to climate change, has published an open letter signed by many creative types and celebrities.

The signatories “have issued a mea culpa to the media today in response to criticism that they are guilty of being hypocrites for backing Extinction Rebellion and continuing to live high carbon lives,” Extinction Rebellion wrote on its website. “Despite the criticism they face, the signatories say that they are resolute in still speaking out on the issue of the climate and ecological emergency. The letter also urges the media to do more to support the cause.”

Signatories include heavyweights such as Thom Yorke, David Byrne, Adam Clayton from U2, Brian Eno, Bob Geldof, Orbital, Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack, and Fay Milton of Savages. Extinction Rebellion has posted the full letter at its website.

We’ve got more coverage on the convergence of the environment and music, including Asian Dub Foundation releasing a track in support of Extinction Rebellion.
