Barney Greenway of Napalm Death gets a kick out of eating healthy and simply

There’s been a few healthy-food video series from music people, such as Highway to Health from the singer from Sepultura and Vegan Black Metal Chef, and it sounds like Barney Greenway from Napalm Death has enough lifestyle pointers to start a series too.

“I get a kick out of eating healthy” and “eating simply,” Greenway, the vocalist of the U.K. grindcore band, said on a recent episode of No Fuckin’ Regrets with Robb Flynn (of Machine Head, formerly of Vio-Lence). Greenway told Flynn he stopped eating meat as a teenager and has since gone fully vegan and cut animal products out of his lifestyle. He does “health veganism” because, as he pointed out, “You can also be a vegan and eat fuckin’ shit.”

Some items Greenway includes in his diet are:

  • Beans
  • Brown rice
  • Fake meats (“once in a while as a treat”)
  • Legumes
  • Pulses
  • Raw hemp protein powder (two scoops in a tall glass of water; “I’ll just do it and hold the nose, man”)
  • Tofu (“once in a while for a protein boost”)
  • Whole wheat pasta

And he follows the parameters of low salt, low sugar, and no oils for cooking.

Greenway said he does endurance cycling in the morning, and before heading out for a ride he has a quick breakfast consisting of a small oat biscuit (“we call them Scottish oat cakes”) with peanut butter added, half a banana, and a one-shot of coffee.
