Sonic Circuits: D.C. experimental music compilations online

Sonic Circuits described itself as “a Washington, D.C. area promoter for experimental music” which operated from 2002 to 2018. It put out a bunch of compilations and hosted a bunch of multiple-day festivals in the District, such as Dog Daze (see below).

There’s still a bunch of Sonic Circuits releases up on its Bandcamp page. The compilations Low End for the Bottom Line is up for purchase, and so are District of Noise Vol. 1, Vol. 2, Vol. 3, Vol. 4, Vol. 5, and Vol. 7. The District of Noise series is dedicated to “documenting experimental audio activity in and around Washington, D.C.”

Music For Restrooms is up for name your price. District of Noise Vol. 6 is up for streaming (the CD version is sold out) and features Timmy Sells His Soul (we have live video of that project up on our YouTube channel).

Over at Washington City Paper, Eames Armstrong wrote a history of Sonic Circuits in 2018 that gives a lot of background.
