Roundup of upcoming metal and punk books

Since the National Book Festival is coming up at the end of the month in Washington D.C., it would be good to have a look at what books are coming out in the worlds of metal and punk.

Punk Faction

Punk Faction (BHP ’91 to ’95) is the new book from David Gamage, in which he pulled highlights from the ‘90s zine British Hardcore Press, or BHP. The book features stories, reviews, interviews, and political articles and promises a view into the British hardcore and alternative music scene from the time.

It’s out now on Earth Island Books and is available on Amazon.

Heavy Tales

Heavy Tales: The Metal. The Music. The Madness. As Lived by Jon Zazula is a book by Jonny Z, the co-founder, along with his wife, Marsha, of Megaforce Records. These two launched the careers, or at least were early supporters, of Metallica, Anthrax, Testament, Mercyful Fate, Overkill, and the list goes on.

Pre-orders for the paperback and hardcover edition are up now at Jonny Z’s website. The release date is October 29, 2019. E-book pre-orders will follow, with a release date, appropriately enough, on Black Friday, 2019.

Heavy Music Artwork

A series of books showcasing album artwork from the metal scene, Heavy Music Artwork’s releases include titles such as Lucifero, Aesthetics Of Sickness, Monochromes, and Masterpieces. These folks, who say their mission is “promoting heavy metal and rock as art & culture,” also publish a magazine of the same name. Check out the online store.

Hyborian

The Traveler – A Hyborian Tale is a new book by Martin Bush, one of the guys from the band Hyborian (you can check the band out on Facebook). It’s a sci-fi book and a companion to the band’s upcoming album, Volume II. The book is out now, available from the band.

OK, that’s all for this roundup. We’ll write about more books coming up on the blog. In the meantime, we’ve posted about books plenty of times before.
