“These guys are fucking great!” Jello Biafra is quoted as saying about the band Detention in 1983. A New Jersey hardcore band from back then, Detention has been given a lease on life with the fun Dead Rock ‘N Rollers collection.
The record came out on Halloween last year and contains the band’s 7″ EP, tracks from an eponymous album, and unreleased tracks. Some of the cuts are more hardcore punk and some are more catchy and melodic, which is kind of refreshing that the band doesn’t sound the same all the time.
It’s on CD and limited LP and digital from Left for Dead Records, a label specializing in reissues that has been sending in CDs for review to D.U. for a little while. In the label’s description, it says in part “limited vinyl editions … for collectors, budget CDs and downloads for everyone else.”
