Rabujos kills with “Quatro Mil Corpos”

Rabujos is a Brazilian grindcore band with an interesting mix. The group plays dirty music with a singer that reminds me of the guy from Ratos De Porão. Meanwhile, some of the riffs and beats remind me of a certain era of Napalm Death, around the time period of Order of the Leech and The Code is Red … Long Live the Code.

I heard of Rabujos because I had dinner with J.R. Hayes and he handed me and our dining companion a copy of the latest Mold Dominion release, Quatro Mil Corpos. J.R. had two copies on him because Mold Dominion is a record label J.R. co-founded; this record is his eighth release. The CD contains the band’s first full-length and the tracks from a split with the band Aphorism.

Lyrically, the band sings about how bad life can be, how violent some spaces and places are, and how corruption and hypocrisy just make things worse. Some of the songs seem to vividly recall specific incidents without giving away those involved.

The split tracks sound a little more clean than the full-length ones, but aren’t so tidy that they lose their edge.

Rabujos is great, and at 19 tracks this version from Mold Dominion packs a punch. Get Quatro Mil Corpos on CD or digital from Bandcamp.
