Music news roundup: CDs on sale, radio station gear on auction

Final Gasp was set to play Washington, D.C. and I was going to attend, but the gig was cancelled when one of the members went to the hospital. The band posted that they set up a Gofundme to help cover his medical expenses.

Screen grab of Roger Waters speaking on a podcast.

Roger Waters was making a point about distracting the public from important matters in an interview recently (pictured above), and for some reason decided to take the opportunity to ridicule Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne. This was after the band’s charity concert and Ozzy’s later death in July of this year. Ozzy’s son Jack Osbourne hit back hard on Instagram; he later wrote on the platform that his original post was taken down by Instagram for hate speech and so he posted his response to Waters again, this time with the expletives removed.

“Hey Roger Waters – fuck you,” Osbourne wrote in his original post, adding, “My father always thought you were a cunt.”

Country music defined the military experience for a long time, but no longer, Clay Beyersdorfer writes for Military Times.com. Troop playlists are just as likely to be filled with hip hop, EDM, or K-pop as country, which reflects a generational change, he notes.

Arlington Independent Media in my hometown has been dying a slow death for years, and now all of its equipment is up for auction. If you’re looking for audio/visual gear, supplies, equipment, and furniture, have a look. ARLnow.com has the details.

Screen grab of Shane Embury speaking in an Instagram video

Shane Embury posted a video to Instagram (pictured above) to address a backlash over his Dark Sky Burial album cover that looks suspiciously AI generated, I’d say due to its similarity to a Deicide album cover that is confirmed was AI generated. Embury said in the video (that has comments turned off) that he didn’t know whether or not the cover was created using AI, but that he paid an artist to do the artwork.

Relapse Records is having a CD sale. There’s some good stuff posted at the sale, starting at the low, low price of $0.99. This is unkind, but I can’t help thinking of the (needlessly homophobic) Anal Cunt song, “Your Band’s in the Cut-Out Bin.” Let me quickly add that records I’ve played on have suffered a similar fate, so I’m not in the position to point fingers.

Rest In Peace
