…Sounds Like the Devil in Here… is the strong debut album by local band Carrier Wave. The band pulls from a few related genres like desert rock and the sort of loud, reverby surf music that leans on big guitar chords.
This is the sort of thing that I struggle with where I go, I recognize parts of this but I don’t know what it’s called. It sometimes helps when the band offers its own description, in this case both “garage desert punk” and “garage power punk.”
“Punk” is use so frequently and loosely that to me it’s too vague to mean anything. I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing Carrier Wave live, but from what I can tell the band isn’t so punk or garage, but it does rock and has variety—both in its own material and in an Elton John cover—and boasts good songs. These are three big plusses in my book.

Carrier Wave was kind enough to send this LP in for review. You can get the six-track record on attractive mango-marble vinyl and on digital on Bandcamp, amongst other streaming platforms. …Sounds Like the Devil in Here… is well worth checking out.
