Artists and musicians sign open letter asking Congress to “Save Our Stages”

The National Independent Venue Association, or NIVA, has asked Congress for federal assistance to support independent venues, a great number of which likely to close because of the pandemic, Ethan Millman writes in Rolling Stone.

Lots of big names in music and movies and the recording industry have signed on to an open letter from NIVA on the subject, part of the #saveourstages push. Neil Young, St. Vincent, David Byrne, Robert Plant, Trent Reznor, Wyclef Jean, Patti Smith, Michael Franti, Ian MacKaye, Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore, and many others have added their names.

Some metal, hardcore, and punk bands have signed on as well, including Adolescents, Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder, Exodus, The Damned, Gatecreeper, Gwar, Khemmis, Ministry, The Melvins, Queensrÿche, Rancid, Sick Of It All, Sleater-Kinney, Power Trip, Propagandhi, Subhumans, Sun O))), and War On Women.
