The genre is “sci-fi drone metal.” The sci-fi and the metal comes from Michel “Away” Langevin, the drummer from Voivod, and the drone comes from Eric Quach from Thisquietarmy. The two teamed up for the project called Thisquietarmy X Away and the album The Singularity, Phase I.
They both contributed to the album artwork as well, which is interesting since artwork is an area for which Away is singularly known.
The album contains five tracks, and the teaser released on YouTube last month, below, is a good sampling of what the whole album sounds like.
The Singularity, Phase I is up for preorder now on vinyl (colored, with a glow in the dark silkscreen print and postcard) and t-shirt bundle from P575, and comes out on December 5.
