Cattle Decapitation has a strong fanbase amongst death metal fans and I’m guessing they’ll be happy with the new album Terrasite.
Cattle Decap (for short) or Cattle D (as Pete Ponitkoff from Benümb calls it) has smart, clever lyrics and is the kind of band whose followers wear its shirts to vegetarian food festivals. Terrasite continues with the trajectory of themes on previous albums of ecological and humankind destruction.
I’m catching up myself—I haven’t been following the band and, going into this record, I was comparing it to what I thought the band sounded like, so I was surprised to hear some black metal-ish and melodic Gojira-type sounds. In any case, Cattle D has gone for an expansive album with keyboards and sound effects as well as guitar shredding, drum blasting, and vocal acrobatics that I’m sure fans demand and expect.
Terrasite is out now on Metal Blade Records on LP, CD, Bandcamp, and other streaming services.
