We’re fans of Democracy Now! around here, and so is the former bandleader of Dead Kennedys, spoken word performer, head of Alternative Tentacles Records, political activitst, and all-around punk icon Jello Biafra. The man doesn’t pull any punches, neither in his art nor his appearances on Democracy Now!, which describes itself as “a national, daily, independent, award-winning news program” which is “pioneering the largest public media collaboration in the U.S.”
The show has run speeches of Biafra’s before, but they had him on the show twice:
Biafra reported in his own style from a September 2004 protest at the Tennessee delegation to the Republican National Convention when they hosted an exclusive “celebration” of Johnny Cash at the auction house Sotheby’s. Jump to the 53:51 mark for the segment:
In August 2000 Biafra was one of the guests analyzing George W. Bush’s RNC presidential nomination speech. In this clip he comes in at the 24:47 mark:
Lately, Biafra has been playing music with the group Jello Biafra & The New Orleans Raunch and Soul All-Stars.
