
Cold Mourning is a California doom band whose latest release is a seven-track CD from a few years ago called The End of Reason. It sounds like it was recorded loud, which is awesome—the songs are crispy and distorted. Most of the record is Sabbath-influenced and rocks hard, with a couple of soft interludes such as the instrumental “The Endless Window” (which leads into a resounding “Oh yeah!” that kicks off the next song) and the bookends of the final track, “Laid to Rest.” The latter is also the slowest and most punishing song on this old-school record.
