The Slants win in court

The High Court ruled this week that “a law denying federal trademark protection to names that are deemed disparaging is unconstitutional,” reports The New York Times. The Oregon band The Slants, an all-Asian-American rock band, is sitting pretty following the ruling: It waged a multi-year fight on the issue of trademarking the band name.The Times interviewed the band’s frontman about it, and the band released a statement on its website on the day of the ruling.
