“Forty million American adults have lost some hearing because of noise” and half of the damage occurred because of everyday exposure to loud sounds, including rock concerts. This is from a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report written about by Lenny Bernstein in the Washington Post.
Hearing loss for a sizeable percentage of adults was caused by factors including “listening to music through headphones with the volume turned up too high.” We can imagine most people reading this post have been guilty of doing that at some point.
“Hearing damage results from a combination of volume and length of exposure to the noise,” Bernstein wrote. “Two minutes at a 110-decibel rock concert” can damage hearing.
D.U. wears earplugs at concerts and band practice and tries not to turn up the music through headphones too high. How about you?
